Contests

There will be a contest for the best oral presentation and the best poster. The contests are open to early career scientists ONLY (bachelor and master students, PhD students, scientists who have received their PhD within the past eight years).

Awards

The ERB Steering Committee assigned the ERB 2024 medal award to Prof. Dr. Hubert Holzmann in recognition of his outstanding scientific contribution to the Euromediterranean Network of Experimental and Representative Basins. His dedication, expertise, and innovation have significantly advanced the understanding of hydrological processes across the Euro-Mediterranean Region.

Prof. Dr. Hubert Holzmann will give his medal lecture titled "Observation and Modelling – The never-ending struggle of a hydrologist" on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, at 21:00.

The location

The ERB Conference will be held in the city of Inca, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain. Mallorca is the largest island in Spain and the seventh largest in the Mediterranean Sea. In the past, due to its peaceful atmosphere, it was also known as "The Island of Calm"; nowadays it is a very important tourist destination, both national and international.
Inca is in the center of the island being the second most important city of Mallorca. It is well-known for its shoe and leather garments industry and also an important economic development center.

More information at IncaTuristica or abcMallorca.

Conference venue

The Conference will be held at the Centre Bit Raiguer. This is the headquarters of the Balearic Islands Natural Hazards and Emergencies Observatory - RiscBal. The site has a large conference room and all the necessary facilities.

Travel information

Mallorca is well connected with the rest of Europe by airplane and ship. It is possible to arrive to Port d’Alcúdia (north of the Island) by ship from Toulon (Corsica Ferries) and also from Barcelona or València (different companies), both to Port d’Alcúdia and Port de Palma.

Transfer from Port d’Alcúdia

- Bus line 302 (TIB) direct connection with Inca

Transfer information from Port de Palma

- Bus line 1 (EMT) to Palma Central Station + Train line T1, T2 and T3 (TIB) to Inca

Transfer information from Son Sant Joan Airport

- Bus line A32 (TIB) direct connection with Inca

Points of interest

Conference topics

The 19th Biennial ERB Conference 2024 aims to gather scientists working in small experimental catchments to foster communication and collaboration, share information on new monitoring technologies, analysis techniques, and recent scientific findings, to ultimately promote advancements in catchment hydrology.

The conference aims to focus on recent advances in catchment hydrology and has special sessions for both human- and climate change-impacted small catchments and related measuring techniques:

- Human and climate thresholds of land degradation: new measurement techniques in small catchments

- Natural hazards assessment & early-warning systems: integrated management under climate change impacts in human-impacted small catchments

- Integrated vulnerability assessment: implementation of nature-based solutions for increase resilience from multi-hazards
