The Universitat de les Illes Balears has a solid track record in the study and development of early warning systems for natural risks and has built up a body of scientific and technological knowledge geared towards smart land management and the transfer of knowledge in these fields. This line of scientific and technological work is carried out by the established R&D&I group, the Balearic Islands Observatory on Natural Risks and Emergencies (RiscBal), which forms part of a broader framework of institutional efforts to improve service to society, with the aim of promoting -in an integrated way- environmental monitoring, research into natural risks and the generation of applied knowledge for territorial management, thereby helping to strengthen analytical capacity, foresight and resilience, and ensuring access to rigorous information for the institutional, research, innovation and academic communities.
