The Balearic Islands are exposed to natural hazards, which makes them a highly vulnerable territory. In recent decades, global change processes, and particularly climate change, have led to a significant increase in these hazards: floods, erosion, desertification, forest fires, mass movements, extreme weather phenomena, etc. All of this represents a considerable increase in risks and losses resulting from natural and anthropogenic disasters. Furthermore, the degree of artificialization in the territory of the Balearic Islands has significantly increased, raising the level of exposure of the population and infrastructure to natural and anthropogenic hazards.
